Three audits, three issuers, three sets of buyer expectations. This is the plain-English comparison for Singapore SaaS teams choosing their first (or next) certification.
LowerPlane serves startups in the United States, Singapore, India and worldwide.

If your buyers are Singapore-based (SMEs, local enterprises, public-sector procurement) and your motion rarely crosses into US or EU enterprise, Cyber Trust is a credible primary certification with CSA funding support.
ISO 27001 is the default for EU and multi-APAC enterprise buyers. Procurement teams in those regions include it on their vendor-readiness checklist by default. SAC-accredited CBs carry full international recognition.
US Fortune 500, large SaaS buyers and healthcare/fintech security teams almost always ask for SOC 2 Type 2 before signing a six-figure contract. Type 1 + bridge letter unblocks deals while Type 2 runs.
Cyber Essentials → Cyber Trust → ISO 27001 if expanding
ISO 27001 and SOC 2 together; add Cyber Trust if a local enterprise asks
ISO 27001 or SOC 2 first (banks accept either), with MAS vendor-diligence overlay
SOC 2 + HIPAA, add Cyber Essentials for HIA alignment angle
All three share a core of security controls. Rough overlap: Cyber Trust ↔ ISO 27001 ~70%, ISO 27001 ↔ SOC 2 Security ~80%. Build the shared evidence set once.
Yes. The control sets overlap substantially — a reasonable estimate is 60–70%. Teams often prepare one evidence pack and run both audits within a quarter, especially if the ISO 27001 CB can also serve as the Cyber Trust-appointed certification body (several can).
Usually not. US procurement teams specifically look for SOC 2 reports from AICPA-licensed CPA firms. Cyber Trust is a credibility signal in Singapore and parts of ASEAN but doesn't substitute for SOC 2 in a Fortune 500 vendor review.
Cyber Essentials (the entry-level CSA mark) is usually the cheapest first certification for a sub-50-person startup, especially with CSA funding. Cyber Trust and ISO 27001 are quote-based from accredited CBs; actual spend depends on scope, headcount and sites. SOC 2 adds the CPA audit fee on top of the readiness platform.
Depends on your pipeline. SG-only buyers → Cyber Essentials for the first year. US enterprise deal in flight → go straight to SOC 2 Type 1, run Type 2 observation in parallel. EU buyers in the mix → ISO 27001 first because European procurement expects it by default.
Enterprise buyers almost always want Type 2 before signing a six-figure contract. Type 1 is useful to unblock the first deal; pair it with a bridge letter and start the 3-month Type 2 observation window immediately so the next report follows naturally.
Modest. SOC 2 Security and ISO 27001 Annex A overlap ~80%. The ISO-only work is the Statement of Applicability, formal ISMS documentation, internal audit and management review. For a well-prepared startup this is 3–4 weeks of incremental effort before engaging the CB.
No. Cyber Trust is a Singapore scheme; non-SG buyers largely do not recognise it. If your buyers sit in the EU or wider APAC, ISO 27001 remains the reference. Cyber Trust complements ISO; it does not replace it.
