PHI / ePHI
Protected Health Information (PHI) and the electronic subset (ePHI) as defined by HIPAA.
PHI is any individually-identifiable health information held or transmitted by a Covered Entity or Business Associate. ePHI is the electronic form. HIPAA permits uses and disclosures only for treatment, payment, operations and specific exceptions, and requires encryption and safeguards for ePHI.
